(1904-2004) Кеннан, Джордж ФростДипломат, историк, автор многочисленных трудов по истории советско-американских и российско-американских отношений. Окончил Принстонский университет [ Princeton University]; на дипломатической работе с 1926, работал в дипломатических представительствах США в Германии (1929-31, 1939-41), СССР (1934-38) и других европейских странах, в Европейской консультативной комиссии (1944-45). В 1945-46 советник-посланник посольства США в СССР; в 1946-47 заместитель начальника Национального военного колледжа [ National War College], в 1947-49 руководил Бюро по планированию внешней политики Госдепартамента США [ Department of State, U.S.]; в 1949-50 советник госдепартамента, главный советник при госсекретаре по вопросам долгосрочного планирования. Посол США в СССР в марте-сентябре 1952, единственный посол США за всю историю советско-американских отношений, объявленный персоной нон грата; посол США в Югославии (1961-63). Автор доктрины сдерживания [ containment by deterrence], вдохновитель плана Маршалла [ Marshall Plan] и доктрины Трумэна [ Truman Doctrine]. С 1950 занимался преподаванием и исследовательской деятельностью, часто выступал по вопросам внешней политики США. В 1956-74 - профессор, с 1974 - почетный профессор [ Professor Emeritus] Принстонского института перспективных исследований [ Institute for Advanced Study]. Лауреат двух Пулитцеровских премий [ Pulitzer Prize] за работы "Россия выходит из войны" ["Russia Leaves the War"] (1956) и "Мемуары, 1925-1950" ["Memoirs, 1925-1950"] (1968).
